AI, LPR & Deterrence
AI Video Analytics And License Plate Recognition.
Analytics earn their place when they cut the number of recordings a human has to watch. Everything else is a feature list.
What It Is Actually For
The Problem Was Never Recording The Video. It Was Finding Anything.
A thirty-day archive nobody can search is a filing cabinet with no labels. Analytics are worth paying for at the point they make it searchable.
Search By What Happened
Find a person or a vehicle crossing a line at a time of day, instead of scrubbing hours of footage of an empty yard.
License Plate Recognition
Plate capture at entrances and gates, with a searchable log of what came and went and when.
Active Deterrence
Strobe and speaker triggered by a real detection, so the intervention happens during the event rather than during the review.
Fewer False Alarms
Object classification filters out headlights, weather and animals, which is what makes alerts worth leaving switched on.
Line Crossing And Loitering
Rules that match the actual risk on a site: the fence line after hours, the loading bay at 3am, the doorway somebody keeps standing in.
Occupancy And Counting
People counting where it informs staffing or capacity, rather than because the camera supports it.
From a job
Analytics Are Only As Good As The Frame You Give Them
Detection runs on the image the camera produces. Mount it too high and every person in frame is a hat and a pair of shoulders, which is the classic reason a system misses what it was bought to catch.
This one is set low enough and close enough to the entry that the frame is filled by the thing being looked at rather than by the parking lot behind it.
LPR In Practice
Plate Capture Is A Lens And Angle Problem Before It Is A Software Problem.
Most disappointing LPR installs are correctly licensed, correctly configured, and pointed wrong.
Hit the four conditions on the right and read rates are high. Miss one and the software does not save you.
In practice that means a dedicated camera. A general overview camera that happens to see the gate will not read plates well, because the two jobs want different lenses and different exposure. We specify LPR as its own position, alongside the overview camera rather than instead of it.
The output is a searchable log of plates with times, which is what makes it useful after an incident: a gate log and a lot that agree with each other. It is most valuable where vehicles are the asset or the risk, which in Denver usually means dealerships, equipment yards, fleet depots and multi-tenant garages.
Want to know whether your gate can actually read a plate?
- Angle
- Shallow to the plate, not across it.
- Speed
- Predictable, which in practice means at a gate.
- Distance
- Matched to the lens the position was chosen for.
- Light
- Enough light, or enough infrared to expose the plate not the headlights.
Where It Pays
Sites Where Analytics Change The Outcome.
Analytics are worth specifying where somebody would otherwise be watching, or where nobody is watching at all.
Equipment And Auto Yards
Plate capture at the gate and deterrence on the perimeter after hours.
Fleet And Depots
A searchable record of vehicle movement without anyone maintaining a paper log.
Multi-Tenant Garages
Entry and exit logging where the incident is usually reported days later.
Large Perimeters
Line crossing on a fence line, where continuous human monitoring was never realistic.
After-Hours Sites
Active deterrence at the moment of detection, on properties nobody is standing in at 3am.
Construction
Access and materials through each phase, with rules that move as the site changes.
More from Elite Security
The Rest Of The Video Systems We Install.
Most jobs touch more than one of these. They are separate pages because the detail differs, not because they are sold separately.
Analytics only pay off on top of a system that was specified properly, which is what the rest of Elite Security does. The industries we work in covers the same ground by property type, and the about page has the company background.
